Frequently Asked Questions About Orthopedic Physical Therapy & Our Services

Get answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we get about our services, treatments and more! Contact us today for more information or to schedule an appointment.

How soon can I schedule an appointment?

Our goal is to schedule your appointment within 24-48 hours of your inquiry.

Will my insurance cover the costs of physical therapy?

All major insurances cover physical therapy. To see if we are a network provider with your insurance plan you can either call us, your insurance or visit your insurance’s website. We participate in all major insurance plans and will bill your insurance for you.

Does OPT have convenient appointment times?

We have early morning (6:30am), lunch, after school and evening appointment times (as late as 7:00pm).

How often will I need to come for treatment?

Each patient is unique but with our focus on achieving results and helping you to have a home program, our average number of visits is 8 to 12 depending on your medical condition and healing.

Do I need a referral for physical therapy?

In New Hampshire, physical therapists can treat a patient without a doctor’s referral. However, your insurance company may have certain requirements or restrictions for how you initiate physical therapy treatment. If you call the phone number on the back of your insurance card, your insurance representative could tell you whether or not you can refer yourself to physical therapy or need to obtain a prescription/insurance referral from a physician specialist or your primary care doctor. Our office staff can assist you with any questions you may have about your insurance coverage.

How does OPT communicate with my doctor?

We send progress summaries at each doctor visit so the doctor is updated with regards to your progress regularly.

How can I determine my physical therapy benefits?

In order to determine what your benefits are you can call the member services or customer relations department of your insurance plan. This phone number can usually be found on your insurance identification card or by visiting the website for your insurance provider. The insurance representative you talk with will be able to tell you the details of your benefits. The following questions are useful in prompting the insurance representatives to give you complete information:

a. Is OPT a network provider with my insurance?
b. What is my copay?
c. Do I have a deductible? If Yes, how much has been met?
d. Do I have restrictions or limitations as far as the number and/or date range for my physical therapy visits?
e. Do I need a PCP/Ins. Referral?
f. Is there any pre-certification or pre-authorization required other than a referral?

By asking these questions you can learn how your benefits work. Take advantage of the services offered by your insurance. The information is available to you and can help you make choices regarding your physical therapy options.

What therapeutic techniques are offered at OPT?
How long does physical therapy take to show results?

Some patients notice improvements after just a few sessions, while others may require several weeks. The length of time depends on your injury, overall health, and how consistently you complete your home exercise program.

What should I expect at my first physical therapy appointment?

At your first visit, your therapist will perform a thorough evaluation of your condition, medical history, movement patterns, and goals. We’ll then create a personalized treatment plan that may include hands-on therapy, guided exercises, and a home program to maximize your progress.

Can physical therapy help with arthritis pain?

Being IC, I was hesitant to do PT, but Jason and Holly were wonderful. They got me from being in pain and unable to move my arm back to my old self. Highly recommend them, if you're looking for efficient and pleasant one-on-one help. Thanks!

Excellent experience with the staff. Mostly worked with Holly and Leanne and they were both outstanding and it was well worth the work to get the results! Shout out to their right hand man Seth! Thank you to Dr. Abboud from Heel to Toe Podiatry for recommending their facility. Great team and I highly recommend the facility if you need PT.

Everyone here is so fantastic! I had a foot injury that was debilitating me for months, and after being in the care of the wonderful physical therapists and physical therapy aids, I had a great recovery! I have a wonky work schedule and sometimes I wasn’t able to see one designated physical therapist, anyone who was available would see me, and I greatly appreciated that! Also, I love how they are open outside of normal business hours which was very helpful with scheduling appointments. If you want fantastic care, I would highly recommend OPT!

I’m very pleased with the results and quality of care I received. The Therapists and staff were knowledgable and proficient in dealing with my situation. I have had therapy in a number of places for a number of ailments over the years and I am happy to give my highest recommendation to OPT.

Awesome place with super friendly staff. Spent the better part of 4 months, almost everyday of the week here and never had anything short of a welcoming professional experience. They crafted specific routines to cater to my entire medical case. The rebuilding process was challenging, but made incredibly less so with their attention to needs, limitations, and physical capabilities. I have much respect for Jason and the entire team

During my time with OPT, I worked with Christiana, Holly, Jason, and Billy. Everyone was incredibly friendly, helpful, understanding, and professional throughout the ups and downs of my recovery. I wouldn't be where I am right now without them, and I will miss my time with them all. I highly recommend OPT for anyone considering their physical therapy options in southern NH!

Have been to physical therapy other places, and this is the only place I actually got results. This is my second experience with OPT. All the physical therapists are very friendly, caring, and know their stuff. They ask questions, monitor your progress and are firm but not overly aggressive. Highly recommend if you want results!

You will not find a better office to work with. My doctor originally referred me somewhere else for PT but after weeks of not being able to get through, I called OPT. I spoke with a live person on the phone right away who scheduled me for an eval the first day I was available. During treatment I never had to miss work because I was able to schedule early morning appointments, how the exercises and treatments worked was clear, all the physical therapists were wonderful to work with, and I’ll miss seeing them now that I’ve finished. The upside of any future injury will be getting to work with them again!
